Summer 2008 Ohio Public Health - Lending Your Voice Next Steps: Performance Improvement Standards - click here for more information!

Increasing demands on our public health system require continuous improvement to meet the public's health and safety needs.  Public health associations at every level are advancing the development of national accreditation standards for state and local health agencies. Ohio is one of ten states to receive grant funding from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation to contribute to the national discussion and position Ohio for potential transition to a national voluntary accreditation model.

Local input is essential. To facilitate this grassroots effort, the Ohio Voluntary Accreditation Team was formed, comprised of local boards of health representatives, local health commissioners, directors of nursing, environmental health directors, academics, public health association members, and the Ohio Department of Health. Based on input from partners across Ohio's public health system and supplemented with national research, this team will draft a proposed revision to current local improvement standards and propose models for both state and local voluntary accreditation.
